IDM System Stabilization and Overhaul for a Global Manufacturer

Sevendos_DACH_case_manufacturing-1

Background

As part of maintaining and modernizing its legacy Identity Management (IDM) environment, a global steel manufacturer initiated a major overhaul of its existing solution. The IDM platform had become outdated, heavily customized, and increasingly unstable, with multiple broken integrations affecting daily operations.

The environment was business-critical and highly complex, spanning Active Directory, OT networks, and numerous enterprise systems. A growing number of incident tickets and recurring issues highlighted the need for a comprehensive stabilization effort.

Due to limited internal IDM expertise and challenges with their previous partner’s delivery capability, the company decided to engage external specialists to take full ownership of the environment and restore operational reliability.

Project Support by Sevendos

To stabilize and modernize the IDM ecosystem, Sevendos provided a dedicated team with deep expertise in identity management and enterprise integrations.

The team took full responsibility for development and maintenance of the environment. The engagement began with extensive root cause analysis and systematic resolution of long-standing issues. Once the most critical problems were eliminated, the focus shifted toward rebuilding integrations, improving logic, and introducing automation.

The scope of work included:

  • Root cause analysis and large-scale bug fixing
  • Integration redesign and stabilization
  • Automation of identity-related processes
  • IDM version upgrades and architectural overhauls
  • Ongoing maintenance and continuous improvement

The environment’s high business criticality required structured prioritization, close collaboration with stakeholders, and careful implementation to avoid operational disruptions.

Technical Approach

The project followed a stabilization-first methodology: first eliminate systemic failures, then modernize and optimize the architecture.

The team progressively rebuilt integrations between IDM, Active Directory, OT networks, and other enterprise systems. Legacy logic was cleaned up, automation was introduced to reduce manual workload, and major version updates were carried out to ensure long-term maintainability.

The result was a significantly more stable and future-ready identity management foundation, capable of supporting upcoming transformation initiatives — including preparation for a potential next-generation IDM solution.
